Condo Living

Home Buying February 27, 2025

Condo living has it's pros and cons, depending on your lifestyle and preferences. Here's a breakdown:

The Good

✔ Less Maintenance – The condo association typically handles exterior upkeep, landscaping, and common areas, reducing your responsibilities.

✔ Amenities – Many condos offer perks like pools, gyms, security, and lounges without the hassle of maintaining them yourself.

✔ Security – Gated access, security personnel, and surveillance are common, providing a sense of safety.

✔ Affordability – Compared to single-family homes in the same area, condos can be more budget-friendly.

✔ Community Living – You’ll be surrounded by neighbors, which can create a sense of belonging and social opportunities.

✔ Prime Location – Condos are often in urban areas or near desirable locations, making commuting and access to entertainment, dining, and work more convenient.

The Bad

❌ HOA Fees & Rules – Homeowners Association (HOA) fees can be expensive and often increase over time. Plus, you’ll need to follow the association’s rules, which may limit renovations, pet ownership, or rentals.

❌ Less Privacy & Noise – Shared walls and close proximity to neighbors can mean more noise and less privacy.

❌ Limited Space – Condos are generally smaller than single-family homes, so storage and personal space may be an issue.

❌ Resale Challenges – Condo values may appreciate slower than houses, and selling can be tricky depending on market conditions and HOA restrictions.

❌ Special Assessments – Unexpected costs for repairs or improvements (like roof replacements) can be passed on to owners as special assessments.

❌ Parking Issues – Some condos have limited parking, assigned spots, or extra fees for additional vehicles.

Would you consider living in a condo, or are you weighing your options between condos and other housing types?
